What does Break the Silence do?
Break the Silence offers free, specialist counselling and support in a safe, confidential space where you can work towards post-traumatic healing and growth after childhood sexual abuse.
Who does Break the Silence support?
Break the Silence supports adults and young people aged 13 and over in North and East Ayrshire who have experienced childhood sexual abuse, as well as sharing information with their partners, family members and others who are affected by what has happened. We welcome people of all genders, backgrounds and identities who have been affected by childhood sexual abuse, whenever the trauma happened.
What therapies are available?
We can offer a choice of therapies, techniques and approaches which they will tailor to suit you, helping you find what feels right for your own journey towards healing. Whether EMDR to process trauma memories, compassion-focused therapy to build kindness towards yourself, or other modalities like pluralistic or transference work, we work with you at your own pace.
Who is behind Break the Silence?
Break the Silence is a Scottish registered charity established in 2004, run by a dedicated team of specialist staff and an engaged board of trustees which includes several survivors, delivering free trauma-informed support funded through grants, contracts and donations.
How do I know I will receive professional support from Break the Silence?
Break the Silence is an accredited service, which means our work meets recognised standards for safety, ethics, and quality. For survivors, this offers reassurance that you are supported by a service that is accountable, regularly reviewed, and committed to doing things properly. Our accreditations reflect our responsibility to provide care that is safe, respectful, and centred around your needs.
How can I get in touch with Break the Silence?
You can phone us on 01563 559 558 or refer yourself or a friend or family member (with their consent) using our simple online referral form. You can also write to us. If you agree to receive mail by post, envelopes are plain and do not identify the sender as Break the Silence. Whichever way you choose, our trauma-informed team will meet you with courtesy, dignity, and belief.
